oktonom

oktonom – 3D artifact in octahedral shape

The oktonom consisting of twelve tetronom single bars is a three-dimensional, octahedral artifact. In contrast to the tetronom with its six single bars, the oktonom reveals significantly more information about the Z component because not only one but three balls can be measured in space. In only one setup, the scale and perpendicularity conditions can be checked.

Technical data:

Feasible lengths: from 100 mm to 3000 mm between the balls' midpoints
other lengths on request
Targets targets for tactile and photogrammetric systems
matte balls made of stainless steel
ceramic balls for area scanning systems on the basis of white light fringe projection and for laser scanner systems
Target size 38.1 mm and 50 mm
(standard size)
Calibration DAkkS or manufacturer's calibration

Targets for the oktonom

Targets made of stainless steel or ceramic can be used as well as blasted or coated balls. The standard ball diameters are 38.1 mm (1.5“) and 50 mm (1.96“). Theodolite, laser tracker and retroreflective targets are, however, only usable to a limited extent because of their restricted surface mounting. The targets allow for tactile and optical measurements, and they are extremely accurately manufactured. For more information about the targets, please refer to the corresponding product page.

Areas of application

The oktonom is most appropriate for rapid and reliable periodic supervising as well as measurement system analysis and testing with regard to the temperature behavior. Due to its shape and materials used, the oktonom fulfils all requirements for artifacts according to the VDI/VDE guidelines 2617 and 2634 as well as to DIN EN ISO 10360.

Shipment

To suit the demands for traceability to national standards, each oktonom is delivered with a calibration certificate that indicates the exact length and measurement uncertainty of each single bar. Therefore, the oktonom can be used as reference standard. The standard version includes twelve single bars, the calibration certificate and a carry case. tetronom Analyzer, a software for a rapid target performance comparison, is available as optional extra.

Quickfacts:

  • Reveals more info about Z component than tetronom with six bars
  • Testing of 3D measuring instruments and machine tools
  • Fulfils all requirements for artifacts according to the VDI/VDE guidelines 2617 and 2634 as well as to DIN EN ISO 10360
